Tattoo Removal Procedure

Before

After

Tattoos are quite common today, but occasionally people have found it necessary to seek removal for a variety of reasons. Previously the removal of a tattoo always left an unsightly scar, but with recent advances in laser technology we are able to remove tattoos with minimal pigmentation problems or scarring. This process typically can be a lengthy one typically involving 8-12 treatments, depending on the colors used in the tattoo. The treatments are done at 4-6 week intervals. During your initial consult Dr. Trimas will evaluate your individual needs and layout a treatment plan specifically for you.

What to expect

Treatments produce an immediate whitening of the skin accompanied by discomfort. A local anesthetic can be administered. to alleviate the pain associated with treatment. Occasionally the epidermis is disrupted and bleeding occurs. Mild crusting and scaling is often seen , sometimes proceeded by blistering. This may last up to 10 days. Multiple treatments are usually required to obtain maximum results, sometimes up to twelve treatments depending on the color of the tattoo. Optimally, the treated areas will heal without any pigment changes, however there is always the risk of or hypopigmentation (lightening) of the skin when the tattoo is removed. Some degree of residual pigmentation usually occurs.

Post treatment instructions

Following the treatment it will be necessary to wear a dressing for 5-7 days. Sun exposure is not recommended prior to treatments. During the healing process we recommend that you keep the area covered while in the sun. You may return to all normal activities following the treatment.
